Artists beautify 38 utility boxes for Chic Ellentrik: “There’s a walking trail in every borough”

KASTERLEE – The three boroughs of Kasterlee have become a lot more colorful thanks to the local arts project Chic Ellentrik. In each village you can take a walk past a total of 38 embellished utility boxes.

The municipality of Kasterlee invited residents and creative people with a link to Kasterlee to submit designs for Chic Ellentrik around three new themes: sports in Kasterlee, points of light in Lichtaart and colors in Tielen. In the end, 38 utility boxes in the three boroughs were embellished with colorful drawings or photographs.
“This project shows in a wonderful way how much creativity and involvement is alive among our residents,” said Ward Kennes (CD&V team KLT), mayor in Kasterleer. “Art does not always have to hang in a museum, it also lives on the street corner.”
Hiking trails
The beautified utility boxes are scattered throughout Kasterlee, Lichtaart and Tielen and together form a walking route in each borough. A map of locations is available on the municipal website.
“Chic Ellentrik makes art approachable and accessible. Young and old, amateur and professional: everyone gets the chance to add color to the village,” explained Ellen Peeters (CD&V team KLT), alderman for Culture in Kasterlee. “This is how we build a warmer and more beautiful public space together.”
